The marine science program is conducted every summer by Fishing for Families in Need (F4FN). The program uses the sport/skill of fishing as a mechanism to teach socio-economically disadvantaged children about the environment around them. The children are immersed daily in a multi-week program under the direction of volunteers.
The children learn about marine conservation, overfishing, climate change, invasive species, and ocean pollution through an educational curriculum developed by Duke University Marine Science professors. Outside of the classroom, the children get to experience deep sea fishing trips, beach clean ups, snorkel trips, and national park adventures in the Bahamas.
